En El Puerto

POEMA DE MI HIJO ARIEL FRANCISCO

As I Stand In The Harbor

As I stand at the harbor, staring at the vast open sea
My mind travels back to the swamps of my elementary
Anticipating the future, so eager and young
Never thought that in a blink of an eye it’d be done

As I stand at the harbor, staring at what lies ahead
Thoughts from my past run back into my head
Thinking it would never end, that there was always tomorrow,
But tomorrow is today, and my heart fills with sorrow

As I stand at the harbor, fearing what is to come
Scared of leaving the security of where I’m coming from
Fearful of journeying into the great unknown
And having to face adversity all alone

As I stand at the harbor, I glance back into my past
And a smile crosses my face as I begin to laugh
Because there they are, all those who have helped me
Reach this harbor and who will always protect me
Against the fear of thinking I will never succeed
They give me all the courage and strength that I need.
They who have made this journey and returned to guide others
Have paved the way for myself, my friends, my sisters, my brothers.

As I stand at the harbor, they gather to see me off on my trek
Telling about all the great things I haven’t accomplished yet.
The ocean is calm, and the sun low in the sky
Yet I can still see my destination as the light begins to die

As I stand at the harbor, I know I’ll prevail
And with their help, I prepare to set sail…

vuelven a mi cabeza

y empiezo a reír

que no he logrado todavía.
El océano está en calma
y el Sol pegado al cielo
Todavía puedo ver mi derrotero
cuando la luz comienza a morir

Mientras estoy en el puerto,
sé que prevaleceré
Y con la ayuda de ellos
me preparo a zarpar…
